Jessie Keary [they/he] is a writer, actor, and artist from the Midwest, US / Wahzhazhe land. They received their BA in English, with a concentration in creative writing, from DePaul University. For the last few years, he’s been writing a full collection of erasure poetry using archived, US newspaper articles about transgender people from the 1860s to 1960s. His debut chapbook, Explaining a Dress: Transfeminine Erasure and Vindication contains 15 of those poems, centering the experience of trans women. In addition to poetry, Jessie most enjoys writing plays (stage and screen), creative nonfiction, and children’s literature. He is currently working on a comedic play involving Joan of Arc and was recently recognized as a Semi-Finalist by Baltimore Center Stage’s Trans History Project.

Jessie trained extensively as an improv actor at The Second City Training Center in Chicago, IL. He graduated from the Conservatory and performed in HouseCo, a year-long professional development program. As an all-around creative person with too many hobbies, they also dabble in photography, printmaking, collage, clay, and abstract mixed media.
